Does Anyone Have Any Information?
Chris Thornhill and his daughter are looking for information relating to a family ancestor depicted in the photograph below.
My Daughter is currently researching our family tree, in particular the Beck family of Dumfriesshire. I was born and brought up in Nottinghamshire but have lived in Argyll, Scotland since 1971. A photograph has been unearthed which we have identified as John Beck, who moved to the Nottingham area from Scotland in the 1860s. This Photograph has the caption, "J Beck Champion of the Nottm. Caledonian Quoit Club 1903" Searching on the Internet has so far failed to find any record of this club. Judging by the name it would seem likely that it may have been started by Scots living in Nottinghamshire. I wonder if you have any knowledge of this club or alternatively a suggestion as to where else I could look.
